Infrastructure Projects Location: Greater New York City
Metropolitan Area (Project Location Varies) Status: Part Time as
Needed Duration: Extended Client: Varies Compensation: $55hr -
$70/hr Based on Certification & Experience Professional Engineer
Field Inspector Role Overview The Professional Engineer (PE) Field
Inspector provides advanced inspection, verification, and technical
oversight services for Building & Infrastructure projects
throughout the Greater New York City Metropolitan Area. This role
supports both Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA)
programs in accordance with 1 RCNY §101-06, Chapter 17 of the NYC
Building Code, and the International Building Code (IBC), as
applicable to each project. This position is responsible for
verifying that construction activities, materials, installations,
and systems conform to approved design documents, specifications,
code requirements, and project standards. The PE Field Inspector
serves as a senior technical presence on site, providing
engineering judgment where required and supporting
compliance-driven decision-making on complex or high-risk work
elements. The role requires maintaining an active on-site presence
during construction operations, witnessing required inspections and
testing, and coordinating closely with contractors, construction
managers, special inspectors, laboratories, and client
representatives. The PE Field Inspector is expected to proactively
identify deviations from contract documents, document
non-conforming work, issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as
necessary, and verify the implementation and effectiveness of
corrective actions. This position plays a critical role in ensuring
structural integrity, life-safety compliance, constructability
alignment, and regulatory adherence, particularly on projects
involving complex systems, specialty construction, or heightened
oversight requirements. Work responsibilities may include but are
not limited to the following: Review and verification of complex or
delegated design elements Oversight of specialty inspections and
testing programs Engineering evaluation of non-conforming work and
proposed corrective actions Field verification of structural,
civil, MEP, and specialty systems Coordination with design
engineers for field clarifications and RFIs Work hours may include
early mornings, evenings, weekends, or night shifts depending on
project requirements and concrete placement schedules. Reporting &
Documentation Requires you to: Prepare and submit daily inspection
and test reports within required timeframe. Utilize client or
company reporting platforms as require Maintain organized and
auditable inspection records Requirements A minimum of 3 years of
experience inspecting construction work in the city of NY, varied
in Size and complexity. Projects may include commercial high-rise
buildings, residential towers, transportation infrastructure,
utilities, institutional facilities, and public-sector
construction. Familiarity with 101-06 and Chapter 17 of the NYC
building code and the International Building Code. Holds OSHA 10 or
OSHA 30 Certification taken within the last 5 years. Well versed in
all aspects of construction and QA/QC responsibilities Familiarity
with applicable Soils & Geotechnical Systems Training and/or
knowledge in fall protection, scaffolding and ladders, & work-zone
safety High School Diploma or Equivalent Physical Abilities
applicable to construction projects in the City of New York and the
ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate
active construction sites, including climbing ladders, scaffolding,
and walking uneven surfaces. Currently holds certification as in
one of the following: NYS Professional Engineer (PE) § Geotechnical
§ Structural § Civil § Marine § Mechanical § Electrical § Fire
Protection In this roll you will: Implement the quality assurance
measures on varying construction projects. Review and submit all
required documentation in accordance with project specifications
Continually monitor work-in-progress Issue Non-Conformance Reports
(NCR) where necessary. Conduct inspections/tests as appropriate and
as required Coordinate all work with the General Contractor or CM
Notify the contractor if there are deviations to the Contract
documents (including Contract Design Documents) Document all RFIs;
field coordination, issues and their resolution; deficiencies;
corrective action; re-tests/inspections; deviations from the
Contract Documents (including Design Drawings) Take a proactive
approach to quality workmanship and work-in-progress Ensure
components meet project specifications Practice safety in
accordance with applicable and site-specific standards Qualified
professionals will also have: Ability to communicate with
colleagues and clients of all levels Experience working with
Microsoft Office Suite Ability to read and understand construction
drawings & specifications Reliable means of transportation & valid
driver’s license Willingness to learn Works well with a team and
individually Familiarity with construction industry codes
Mathematical Knowledge - Using mathematics to solve problems.
Installation Oversight - Installing equipment, machines, to meet
specifications. Equipment Selection Oversight - Determining tools
and equipment needed to do a job. Ability to provide inspection
reports in a timely manor Willingness to obtain additional
