Job Description:
An established construction management firm is seeking a
seasoned Superintendent to lead field operations on a high-profile,
ground-up firehouse project located in a coastal environment. This
is a two-year, full-site build requiring strong coordination
skills, deep construction knowledge, and experience with public
agency oversight — especially within New York City. The ideal
candidate will be a hands-on leader who understands the
complexities of managing trades, schedules, inspections, and safety
on active municipal projects. Experience building on or near the
water — with associated water table, dewatering, and soil
stabilization challenges — is essential. Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the lead on-site authority for all field construction
activities, from mobilization to final inspection. Direct
subcontractor performance, logistics, and sequencing to maintain
schedule integrity and construction quality. Oversee site-specific
challenges including water table management, coastal protection,
and environmental compliance. Enforce all safety protocols and
ensure compliance with OSHA and NYC construction regulations. Work
closely with the Project Manager to maintain updated schedules,
coordinate inspections, and respond to design clarifications or
field conditions. Maintain accurate daily reports, field
documentation, and progress tracking using tools such as Procore,
Fieldwire, or similar. Conduct daily safety meetings, manage
quality control walk-throughs, and uphold performance standards
across all trades. Interface with third-party inspectors, city
agencies (DOB, DEP), and utility companies to ensure all
inspections and milestones are met. Collaborate with DDC
representatives and ensure city-specific protocols are followed
throughout the project. Qualifications: Experience: Minimum 10
years of field supervision experience on vertical construction
projects, preferably public-sector or municipal buildings. Proven
success managing ground-up projects in coastal or flood-prone zones
, including dewatering, foundation systems, and resilient
construction practices. Experience with NYC Department of Design
and Construction (DDC) protocols strongly preferred. Solid
knowledge of NYC Building Code, OSHA standards, and trade
coordination across MEP, structural, and civil disciplines.
Proficiency in field reporting software (e.g., Procore, PlanGrid,
Bluebeam). Strong communication and leadership skills with the
ability to maintain control over complex, multi-trade sites.
Certifications (Required/Preferred): OSHA 30-Hour Construction
Safety (Required) NYC DOB 62-Hour SST Supervisor Card (Required or
obtainable before mobilization) NYC Site Safety Manager License
(Preferred) CPR/First Aid Certification (Preferred)
