Project Description: Regis Summer Institute Instructor for Speech & Debate (Two Weeks) About Regis Summer Institute - Regis Summer Institute offers rising 8th-grade students from the NYC area a two-week immersive experience that blends academic growth, test prep, and spiritual development. This program, held in July at Regis High School, is designed for students with a genuine interest in expanding their knowledge in either STEM or Speech & Debate. Throughout the institute, participants will engage in high-quality projects that enhance their academic profiles while preparing for future challenges. Students will also have the opportunity to deepen their Catholic faith and develop leadership skills through hands-on lessons, structured activities, and the integration of Catholic and Jesuit values such as faith, service, and leadership Position Overview Summary - Regis Summer Institute is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Speech & Debate Instructor to lead our two-week summer institute. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in public speaking and debate, with a passion for fostering communication and critical thinking skills in middle school students. The instructor will serve as a classroom leader and role model, encouraging students to grow as intellectual leaders and individuals committed to service. Responsibilities: Teach fundamental techniques in speech writing, presentation, and debate. Develop and implement a two-week, engaging speech and debate curriculum in collaboration with colleagues. Lead interactive lessons, practice sessions, and debate activities in a fun and positive atmosphere. Encourage critical thinking, argument development, and public speaking confidence. Foster a positive, fun, and safe learning environment that encourages participation and engagement. Communicate regularly with the Admissions team to provide feedback and updates about students’ performance. Supervise students during daily activities, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment inside classes and possibly one off-campus trip. Participate in all aspects of the Summer Institute, including orientation, potential field trips, and chapel services. Other duties include advising, full classroom involvement, and engaging in activities. Supports and is willing to advance the Catholic and Jesuit mission of the school. Works in collaboration with the administration in observing the principles and ideals for which Regis High School stands. And other assigned duties. Qualifications: Experience in coaching or instructing Speech & Debate. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Ability to connect with and engage middle school students. Flexibility, creativity, energy, and a sense of humor. Must pass a background check. Prior teaching experience is a plus.
