SUMMARY:The Director, Development Operations plays a critical role
in ensuring that HIAS' fundraising infrastructure operates
smoothly, efficiently, and with a strong focus on donor care. This
position oversees all back-end development functions, including
gift processing, acknowledgments, donor data management, and
financial reconciliation, ensuring that every donor interaction is
handled with accuracy and professionalism.The Director will also
manage relationships with key vendors responsible for caging, data
hygiene, and reporting, ensuring seamless coordination between
HIAS' internal systems and external partners. They will serve as
the primary administrator for HIAS' donor database (Raiser's Edge)
and related technology, driving improvements in efficiency,
integration, and reporting.The ideal candidate has strong technical
and operational expertise, a keen eye for detail, and a deep
understanding of how development systems work together to support
fundraising success. This is a highly collaborative role that works
closely with Development, Finance, IT, and external vendors to
ensure smooth processes and a positive donor experience.A well-run
development operation is essential to building and sustaining
strong donor relationships. Ensuring that every gift is processed
accurately, every donor is acknowledged in a meaningful way, and
every report reflects the latest and most accurate data allows HIAS
to fund its mission effectively. The Director, Development
Operations ensures that the organization's fundraising
infrastructure is reliable, efficient, and donor-centered.Note,
this position is based at our headquarters in Silver Spring,
Maryland or our office in New York, New York, and we will consider
a remote option for applicants who live outside of commuting
distance to either of our offices and are based in other states in
which we are registered (Arizona, California, Colorado,
Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Massachusetts, Michigan,
Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas,
Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin).THE SALARY RANGE FOR THIS
POSITION IS $100,000.00-115,000.00.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee gift processing and acknowledgment workflows, ensuring
timely and accurate recording of donations and donor
recognition.
- Serve as the lead administrator for HIAS' CRM (Raiser's Edge)
and associated fundraising systems, ensuring data integrity and
seamless integration with financial and marketing platforms.
- Maintain best practices for data hygiene, reconciliation, and
donor record management to support fundraising efforts.
- Identify and implement operational efficiencies to improve
system workflows, automation, and reporting capabilities.
- Ensure that all donors receive timely, accurate, and
personalized acknowledgments, reinforcing their connection to HIAS'
mission.
- Work closely with the Development and Marketing teams to refine
donor communications and stewardship processes.
- Oversee donor service functions, ensuring that inquiries are
handled professionally, efficiently, and with a donor-first
approach.
- Manage and optimize relationships with third-party vendors
responsible for caging, gift processing, and data hygiene.
- Ensure smooth data transfers and reconciliations between vendor
systems and HIAS' internal platforms.
- Partner with Finance to maintain accurate revenue
reconciliation and reporting.
- Develop and maintain fundraising reports and dashboards to
track performance, donor retention, and revenue trends.
- Provide data-driven insights to support fundraising strategy
and decision-making.
- Regularly audit and refine reporting processes to ensure
clarity and efficiency.
- Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS &
REQUIREMENTS:
- 5 to 7 years of experience in development operations, data
management, or nonprofit fundraising.
- Proficiency in Raiser's Edge, Omatic, and other donor
management systems (experience with system integrations a
plus).
- Experience managing gift processing, donor acknowledgments, and
data reconciliation.
- Strong analytical skills and experience with fundraising
reporting and data visualization.
- Ability to manage vendor relationships and oversee contracts
related to gift processing and data services.
- Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills,
and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Development, Finance,
IT, and external partners.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with
demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances.
- Some knowledge of Judaism and/or the Jewish community, culture
