Dean of the Henry P. Becton School of Nursing and Allied Health
Fairleigh Dickinson University, in partnership with the national
search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and
nominations for the full-time Dean of the Henry P. Becton School of
Nursing and Allied Health.-- - The Dean is responsible for the
administration of all academic programs and office functioning of
the School of Nursing which operate on the two campuses in New
Jersey (the Metro Campus and the Florham Campus).-- - The Dean
reports to the University Provost and Senior Vice President for
Academic Affairs.-- - The Dean oversees all academic and business
operations within the School of Nursing programs that include a
4-year BSN program, 1-year and 2-year accelerated BSN programs, an
RN to BSN, an M.S. in Nursing (M.S.N) and a Doctor of Nursing
Practice (DNP).-- - The School also offers a number of Allied
Health Programs. In addition, the School offers a number of
fully-online programs.-- - The Dean coordinates recruitment and
retention efforts of the School of Nursing, and works with the
Development and Alumni offices to assist with fund raising
activities. The Dean will be responsible to:
- Provide vision and leadership in defining the strategic goals
of the School and developing a long term strategic plan for growth
and innovation;
- Supervise the activities of the School of Nursing & Allied
Health, including undergraduate and graduate academic programs
(both in-person and online), Nursing skills and Health Assessment
laboratories, student recruitment and retention, and faculty
development;
- Supervise the administration of selected scholarship
programs;
- Maintain relations with the New Jersey Board of Nursing,
National League for Nursing, American Association of Colleges of
Nursing and the New Jersey Department of Higher Education;
- Maintain proper standards, policies, and procedures required of
professional nursing programs in the state of New Jersey and
nationally;
- Provide leadership in the promotion of interprofessional
collaboration within the health sciences across the University and
the greater community;
- Ensure maintenance of the physical operations of the School of
Nursing & Allied Health;
- Maintain relations with health care organizations through
contractual agreements and informal liaison;
- Maintain relations with the New Jersey nursing community
through membership in the Association of Deans and Directors of
Baccalaureate and Higher Degree Programs in Nursing and other
appropriate organizations;
- Coordinate faculty development activities, including workshops
and individual and group consultation;
- Develop and oversee all School of Nursing & Allied Health
budgets, including restricted grant and scholarship accounts;
- Play a major role in recruitment and retention activities and
in the accreditation of professional programs; and
- Promote inter-campus collaborative opportunities for the
nursing programs on each of the New Jersey campuses and maintain a
presence on each campus to promote the program. Qualifications: The
ideal candidate should have/be:
- A master's degree in nursing and an earned doctorate in
nursing;
- A minimum of 7 years combined teaching experience in
undergraduate and graduate nursing programs;
- New Jersey licensure as a registered nurse or ability to obtain
licensure in NJ;
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in educational
administration or the equivalent with demonstrated leadership
skills;
- Active in professional organizations at regional and/or
national levels;
- Eligible for rank of Associate or Full Professor;
- Demonstrated record of excellent teaching and scholarship;
- Administrative experience including, but not limited to,
program planning and implementation, personnel management,
evaluation, and budgeting;
- Academic experience with skills in instructional design and
course development;
- Administrative authority to accomplish the mission, goals, and
expected program outcomes; and
- Effective leadership to the nursing unit in achieving its
mission, goals, and expected program outcomes. About Fairleigh
