Job Title: Senior Research & Development Chemist/Technical Support
City: Denville

- Formulate personal care ingredients that avoid traditional Sodium Lauryl ether sulfates which are harsh on skin;
- Reformulate existing blends to make them more cost effective;
- Analyze how various chemical ingredients impact a formula's shelf life and storage;
- Prepare chemical formulations for shampoos, body washes, dish liquid soaps and all-purpose cleaners that conform to U.S. EPA regulations;
- Perform stability tests and evaluations on inventory before blends are manufactured;
- Check samples for formaldehyde level, pH, and viscosity to ensure optimum product quality;
- Analyze and evaluate competitive products;
- Assist in the creation of product literature for the sales team's promotion of blends;
- Assist with the preparation and troubleshooting of formulas;
- Monitor production to ensure that master recipes are followed, that weights of raw materials are correct, and that all batches are compatible with previous ones;
- Sample and Re-test products that are close to expiration to determine if ingredients are within specifications and can be recertified as sample stock or incorporated into new blends;
- Evaluate raw materials;
- Prepare finished formulations for demonstration and testing purposes;
- Develop prototype formulas;
- Create Best Practices and SOPs based on preservatives and surfactants;
- Design and conduct experiments to generate supporting data essential to sales and marketing;
- Evaluate compatibility and technical stability data in line with customer needs and product requirements;
- Conduct in vitro SPF analysis;
- Provide technical support for the marketing of the wide range of sulfate-free, mild surfactants available in company's portfolio;
- Review technical requirements to launch products in the U.S.; and
- Provide technical support for the marketing of the wide range of preservatives available in company's portfolio.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Requires a Master's degree in Chemistry or Related Field and 1 year of experience in job offered or 1 year of experience in the Related Occupation.

Chemist or any other job title performing the following job duties:

Utilized knowledge of chemical reactions, measurements, and test to formulate various finished products; Performed chemical experiments to change or create formulas to ensure customer satisfaction by using testing methods; Analyzed how various chemical ingredients impact a formula by utilizing understanding of stability and efficacy; Prepared the chemical formulation for shampoos, body washes, hand soaps, creams, lotions, and other personal care items as well as hand dish liquids, all-purpose cleaners, and other home care and industrial cleaning products; Evaluated alternative raw materials for use in the petitioner's product line using standard applications laboratory methods including salt response curves, foam testing, odor panel testing, stability testing, and viscosity; determined the optimum order of addition for the blending of surfactant concentrates; and filled product sample requests as required following all safety procedures for the handling of chemicals. Engaged in product development which focuses on organic synthesis of surfactants especially related to method development, beyond basic experimental design based on knowledge and use of chemical synthesis routes that involves actual reacting of the product in the lab, scale up in manufacturing and then periodic auditing. applied advanced understanding of chemical analysis, including instrumental analysis including selecting, setting up and establishing activity analysis which is a critical measurement in surfactants utilizing an auto titration unit. engaged in process development and trouble-shooting specific to surfactant production. provided technical support to sales force. reviewed technical data sheets for accuracy. Assisted customers with preparation and trouble shooting of formulas. Analyzed and evaluated competitive products. Conducted in vitro SPF analysis for customers. assisted marketing by providing essential data. Performed qc analysis and maintained records. Prepared/reviewed certificates of analysis. Interacted closely and production coordinator and contract manufacturers. Evaluated materials as next inspection interval is reached to determine if able to recertify. Adjusted non-conformance batches and prepare re-work procedures. Designed and conducted experiments necessary to resolve quality complaints.PI182005058
