Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY: The Infrastructure Engineer will be an
individual contributor on the infrastructure team responsible for
supporting and improving a hybrid environment across the Phillies
technology portfolio. This role will primarily support Google Cloud
Platform (GCP) with secondary support for Microsoft Azure, along
with on-premises virtualization, enterprise storage, backups, and
monitoring. The ideal candidate is a strong hands-on operator and
quick learner who can run and improve what exists today, help
standardize how the environment is managed (documentation,
repeatable processes, and automation), and grow into more
architecture and engineering responsibilities over time. JOB DUTIES
& RESPONSIBILITES: Support day-to-day operations of compute,
storage, networking, and core infrastructure services across a
hybrid environment (cloud on-premises), including troubleshooting,
maintenance, and continuous improvement. Support cloud
infrastructure operations with a primary focus on GCP (and
secondary focus on Azure) including core services, identity/access
patterns, and cloud networking constructs (e.g., VPC/VNet concepts,
routing, firewall rules). Assist in administering and optimizing
enterprise storage platforms (VMware and Dell PowerStore) including
provisioning, performance monitoring, capacity planning, and
lifecycle activities in coordination with the infrastructure team.
Support on-premises virtualization platforms (primary VMware
vSphere, secondary Hyper?V) including provisioning, performance
monitoring, patching/upgrades, and operational support. Maintain
and improve monitoring and alerting across the environment
(availability, performance, and operational health); assist with
tuning thresholds, dashboards, and actionable notifications. Help
support continuity and resiliency efforts with the infrastructure
team by contributing to documentation, testing exercises, and
operational improvements that increase service reliability and
recoverability (without being the sole DR owner). Support baseline
infrastructure security practices including access reviews/least
privilege implementation, secrets handling patterns, patching, and
vulnerability remediation workflows. Partner with development and
application teams to support infrastructure integrations and
operational readiness (connectivity, identity integration,
environment dependencies, troubleshooting platform-related issues).
Create and maintain documentation (runbooks, diagrams, standard
operating procedures) and contribute to standardization efforts in
a less formal environment. Participate in an on-call rotation and
support scheduled maintenance windows as needed. REQUIREMENTS: 3
years of experience in systems administration, infrastructure
engineering, or comparable roles Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer
Science, IT, or related field preferred; equivalent experience
and/or certifications will be considered. Experience supporting
hybrid infrastructure (on-premises cloud), including incident
troubleshooting and operational maintenance. Familiarity with GCP
administration is strongly preferred; comparable experience with
another major cloud platform (e.g., Azure/AWS) with the ability to
ramp quickly into GCP is acceptable. Hands-on experience supporting
virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper?V). Experience
supporting enterprise storage concepts and platforms (SAN/NAS),
preferably Dell PowerStore or similar. Experience supporting
enterprise backup solutions, preferably Veeam, including job
monitoring and restore operations. Solid understanding of
networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls) and how
they apply in both on-premises and cloud environments (e.g.,
VPC/VNet concepts, VPN connectivity). Practical understanding of
Identity and Access Management (IAM) fundamentals (least privilege,
role-based access, service accounts/service principals). Strong
communication and collaboration skills; ability to work effectively
with infrastructure teammates, developers, and vendors/consultants.
Ability to sit, stand, walk, and transport equipment throughout the
facility. Must be able to lift 30–50 lbs. and perform moderate
physical activity as needed. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Exposure to
infrastructure as code (IaC) and automation tooling (e.g.,
Terraform, Ansible) and interest in expanding usage over time.
Scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation
and operational tooling. Experience supporting development teams
and modern operational practices (e.g., CI/CD enablement,
environment standardization, reducing manual work). Relevant
certifications (e.g., Google Cloud Associate/Professional track,
Microsoft Azure Administrator, VMware VCP, or similar). The
Phillies are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified
applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard
to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation,
age, disability, gender identity, marital or veteran status, or any
other protected class.
