Duties and Responsibilities

The Infrastructure and Operations role is part of a fixed-term, three-year fast track program that allows bright, driven graduates and early career professionals to gain further education in, experience with, and exposure to support and operations of a mission critical IT environment. It is a comprehensive rotational program that provides participants opportunity to expand and build practical infrastructure and operations familiarity, technical skills and financial services industry knowledge. Three robust, immersive, fast-paced one-year rotations within operations and engineering teams, with full training for each rotation function:

Year 1 Path in Data Center Operations

Data Center Operations

  • Provide first line of escalation for incidents and technical issues
  • Carry out QA in Data Center Halls and access centers
  • Carry out daily checks to ensure security and access policies are being adhered to and Data Center cleanliness is maintained
  • Perform IT equipment review with daily visual Inspections, verifications and reporting of hardware and current state of alarms, error messages, status/link light activity
  • Provide server hardware repair and replace of external and internal components including power supplies, network and storage SFPs and DACs, DIMMs, NICs, HBAs, and riser cards
  • Perform advanced hardware repair and replace of internal component system boards and processors
  • Provide escorted access for vendors and COLO customers
  • Support storage tape removal and pick up
  • Manage asset record updates, tracking and placing assets as to their location and status (deployed, ceased etc.)
  • Record details of all hardware deliveries received from shipping and receiving
  • Control data center stock; copper/fibers patch cables, fiber cleaning accessories, cables labels; and report appropriately

Year 2 Path(s) in One of the following Operation Groups

Systems Operations

  • Maintain System and Application Production Readiness and Runbook Documentation
  • Monitor systems and application health and performance for production environments
  • Participate in Incident Management by diagnosing and correcting issues identified by monitoring tools and people
  • Contribute to Problem Management through Investigating and resolving problems causing incidents or recurring issues
  • Engage in Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity and workplace recovery tests and events

Network Operations

  • Actively monitor and respond to system events, alerts and information from monitoring tools, and ensure proper follow-up internally and externally until resolution
  • Manage Service Requests, including routing, categorizing, prioritizing and escalating while keeping clients informed about progress
  • Participate in incident management through issue investigation, diagnosis, and service restoration

Year 3 Paths in One of the following Engineering & PMO Groups

Storage and Backup Engineering

  • Participate in new hardware builds for Fiber Channel Switches on Storage Area Networks and Storage Arrays
  • Execute storage provisioning and decommissioning
  • Process data restoration requests
  • Coordinate hardware repairs and related corrective actions with vendors
  • Create and update process documents
  • Manage user accounts and automation scripts

Release Engineering

  • Participate in support for SLDC tools (Jira, Stash and Artifactory)
  • Support application installs across Linux and Windows server environments
  • Develop and maintain software build jobs
  • Engage in Python and Ruby development for API and SQL integrations

Systems Engineering

  • Participate as front-line support for user management, hardware failures, and server onboarding / decommissions
  • Support Linux, Windows, and Solaris server environments
  • Perform corrective actions in Non-Production Systems
  • Engage in Python and bash scripting development for automation of common tasks

Project Management

  • Participate in full project lifecycle phases
  • Assist with strategic, large scale infrastructure projects across all phases
  • Take responsibility for tracking projects at an introductory level
  • Conduct reporting to management using standardized tools

Knowledge and Experience

  • Recent college graduate
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related fields of study
  • Strong analytical/quantitative knowledge
  • Strong interpersonal skills and communications skills to work with internal and external groups in a productive and professional manner
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent service mentality
  • Open to new duties, responsibilities, and change
