Diploma/EquivalentBrakewell Steel, Inc. is seeking an experienced Steel Fabrication Estimator / Project Manager to join our team. This position is located in Chester, New York. The ideal candidate will be a high energy, self-motivated, team player with excellent communication skills and solid experience with Bridge Component, Structural Steel Framing, Misc. Metals, Stairs, and Rails fabrication. Sales and estimating experience in steel and metal fabrication is required.Responsibilities:Estimation: Coordinate and prepare competitive, accurate, and profitable cost estimates for new projects and repeat orders according to customer specifications and plans provided by sales team, online submittals, and phone requests Read, evaluate, and interpret customer specifications, plans, proposals, and instruction requirements for preparation of estimates; determine if suitable scope of work Read and analyze CAD files and prints to determine best method of fabrication and ensure manufacturability; propose value add solutions and efficiencies to control costs Identify and prepare material take-offs, production routings, labor, subcontracted items, and fabrication time requirements, including order entry Negotiate and source costs/contracts with subcontractors as needed to achieve best price, quality, and delivery Prepare project estimate reports identifying factors that may affect pricing Develop and maintain professional relationships with co-workers, clients, and vendors Follow-up with customers and provide feedback to team on submitted quotes Complete estimates in a timely and efficient manner to meet customer expectations Comply with all safety policies and company Quality Management System processes and procedures Project Management: Develop and maintain good relationships with customers; coordinate activities with drafting/engineering, sales and estimating, shipping and production departments to determine project schedules; Review specifications to ensure that the final scope of the work is consistent with the bid. Maintain records of communications with customers (phone calls, conversations, standard letters and notices); update Brakewell systems with the appropriate dates and keep up-to-date and accurate notes; Follow-up on outstanding Requests for Information from all departments; Follow-up on any credit issues that may affect delivery in collaboration with the Credit Department; Research and prepare change orders based on verifiable information; follow-up on submitted extra/credits to clients and prepare processing forms and/or process extra credit when approved within the limits as established by management; Ensure that final drawings are sent and calculations are included if necessary; Process back charge forms, document issues and resolve claims in collaboration with management, who will grant final approval; Update Brakewell's internal systems with all back charges and change orders; Provide continuous improvement guidance and input to all departments; Prepare reports and correspondence for internal and external use; Perform other duties as assigned by the project management director. Requirements: Minimum three to five years of experience estimating fabricated metal components Knowledge of metal fabrication manufacturing processes, plating types, painting, powder coating, and welding techniques required Proficient understanding and ability to read engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications Experience with estimating techniques and cost control Understanding of material pricing Ability to read, breakdown to piece parts and quote from assembly prints Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) AutoCAD and/or Tekla EPM experience a plus Solid interpersonal, verbal communication, and technical writing skills; ability to speak and present effectively before groups of customers or employees Well organized, analytical and detail oriented Ability to work independently and manage time and resources for multiple customers and projects concurrently to meet tight deadlines Strong aptitude for math and problem-solving skills Education Requirements: High School Diploma, GED or similar. College Degree (Associates Degree) or vocational training a plus. 5+ years of experience in a related production leadership role in a manufacturing environment.
